Lake Ontario, the smallest of the five Great Lakes, borders the Canadian province of Ontario to the north, west, and southwest, and New York to the south and east. The lake is the only one of the Great Lakes that doesn’t border Michigan and covers 712 miles of shoreline, including its multiple islands.
Our wood Lake Ontario showcases the beauty and depth of the lake floor, including its two deepest basins, the Mississauga Basin and the Rochester Basin. An artist uses the measurements from a bathymetric chart to determine the lake’s exact depths and then laser cuts pieces of Baltic birch to correspond with each measurement. The pieces are expertly glued together, hand-stained, and etched with points of interest and depth measurements before being fitted into a custom-sized wood frame.
