The Finger Lakes get their name from their long, thin appearance on a map. With eleven lakes in total, the region offers something for everyone. Seneca and Cayuga Lakes are two of the deepest in the United States and are named for two nations of the Iroquois tribes. The lakes are surrounded by undeveloped shorelines and deep, dense forests perfect for hunting, fishing, boating, and hiking. Our 3D nautical wood maps capture the unique landscape of this region with incredible precision you won’t find anywhere else.
Each lake art begins with a chart that documents the depth of the water in the lakes. These measurements are then used to laser-cut pieces of Baltic birch into distinct shapes, which are then layered and glued together to create the dramatic 3D effect our wood lake maps are famous for. The layers of the lake art representing the water are hand-stained, and the map’s surface is engraved with points of interest, major roadways, and landmarks for additional detail. Once complete, the lake of wood map is finished with a custom wood frame and durable, ultra-transparent acrylic to preserve this incredible masterpiece.
